Saving our rivers is a major step in solving the Climate Crisis.
We know a drought may be temporary, but the ongoing water crisis is a climate crisis. Accelerating climate change is creating more frequent and extreme water-related disasters. Shortages, fires, mudslides, and floods are a part of our lives in ways we would not have dreamed a decade ago.
California's rivers can be a powerful tool in combatting these troubles.
Through conservation, there IS enough water for a healthy environment AND for our people, businesses, and food here in California. The problems come from wasting water on deadbeat dams, evaporating reservoirs, and unsustainable crops. Our aging and outdated network of dams, canals, levees, and hydropower is failing us. We need a RESILIENT system that can weather and recover from the extreme wet and dry conditions we will face. Healthy, natural rivers will be a critical component of a healthy water future for California.
