California River Awards 2009 Friday, October 16, 6-9 pm Presidio Officers Club, San Francisco This year's Friends of the River's California River Awards, our annual gala event, will be a little different and very special. FOR's 2009 California River Awards is honoring the "Stan Campaigners", those who, beginning in 1969 and persevering through the early 1980's, poured their hearts and souls into the struggle to save the Stanislaus River. In doing so, they catalyzed river protection movements in California and across the country that continue to this day. In honor of this legacy, we will be bestowing FOR's "California Rivers Award" on all those who were involved in this fight. FOR's 2009 California River Awards will be an unforgettable evening of celebrating the people and the movement that helped ensure there would be no major dams built in California in the past 30 years.  Along with fantastic food, terrific wine and great music, highlights of the evening include: Featured speaker Pete McCloskey, seven-term US Congressman, co-sponsor of the Endangered Species Act and co-chair of the first Earth Day in 1970. Fantastic silent and live auctions featuring outdoor adventures, fine wine, camping equipment & other tempting items a showing of archival films and videos and an extensive display of historic photographs from the Stan Campaign Don't miss the event of the year!  Please join us on Friday, October 16th at the Presidio Officer's Club in SF to help us honor the founders of California's river protection movement.
