I am a river rat, a river guide and a future river activist. The RATS program is an important first step towards my future goals. I applied to the RATS program because I have a goal of creating my own NGO centered on human rights education via taking important political, social, economic figureheads down rivers. Eventually I want to go to law school for water rights. My desire to work on and with rivers stems from the love I acquired at a young age. I was five months old the first time I was on the river – a multi-day Rouge River trip – and have spent my time there ever since. As a RAT I want to spread my love and awareness of rivers to the UC Berkeley campus.
